| A la Madrid |

The Real Madrid game was awesome. A totally new experience for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. We went to the game in a big group(I wore a friend of mine's extra jersey so that I really fit in, even though the jersey was old) and hit the streets for a few minutes before heading in. The rules here are completely different with the stadium than in the U.S. They let you bring in you're open containers from the street and basically any container as long as it doesn't have a lid. We brought in beer, and rum and coke. And by rum and coke I mean one of the kids just brought in a water bottle of rum, a big bottle of coke, and a bunch of glasses. It was definately very relaxed. Our seats were really good too, we were in something like the 11th row or maybe a little farther back, although it was in the corner. The stadium wasn't sold out, but they said there were 62,000 people there so there were plenty of people.
The game was great too. Real scored early to take the lead and dominated most of the first half(which kind of sucked cause that meant all the action was on the other side of the field). Halftime was interesting because everyone pulled out sandwiches(bocadillos) from home and started eating them. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. It was nuts. The idea of buying concessions at the stadium is way different here, even though the prices here were way better than in the US. Then shortly into the second half Olympiacos answered and tied it at 1-1. Then in the 87th minute Real put in a header to go ahead and everyone went nuts. Some random guy picked up a girl in our program and started kissing her. Thankfully she was entertained and didn't get mad and everyone just waited as they finished out the game.
After the game we went out to an Irish pub for some more drinks and just hung out and had a good time(and by good time I mean everyone got pretty drunk).
And that concludes my first soccer experience in person. Being in the stadium full of people did make me miss college football a little though. |
